Attorney General Eric Holder and Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified on their department's fiscal year 2015 budget request, which totaled $27.4 billion, including $25.3 billion for federal programs and $2.1 billion for state, local, and tribal assistance. He touted the successes of the Justice Department, including the conviction of Osama Bin Laden's son-in-law Sulaiman Abu Ghaith and the success of this type of case in Article III Courts. He called the increase in heroin and prescription drug use an "epidemic" and warned that the problem should be seen as one of "public health" and not repeating the way the crack problem was handled.
